  • In the performance, two naive pandas are impressive. They are not only the messengers of culture, but also the inheritance of China's "national treasure" craft. It is understood that panda props are produced by craftsmen of Nanchong Grand Puppet Theatre in Sichuan Province. They are the only people in the world who produce and perform the Puppet Theatre of North Sichuan University. They are always committed to the protection and inheritance of China's national intangible cultural heritage. On the stage, the puppets are dressed and performed by people, so they need to weigh less than 30 kilograms. According to Tang Guoliang, president of Nanchong Puppet Theatre in Sichuan, this requirement alone makes their team stay up several nights. "The material we selected for the first time is 70 or 80 kilograms, far below the standard. Later, we kept trying new materials, which slowly lowered the weight of the puppet."

In order to achieve the desired results, the production team continuously improves and innovates on the basis of the original process. In the selection of materials, they have tried many kinds of materials, such as artificial paper rattan, natural white rattan, bamboo strip, aluminium alloy wire, carbon fiber strip, PVC simulation rattan and so on. After repeated comparisons and hundreds of tests, they finally decided to use aluminium alloy pipe and carbon fiber strip together with the production process of LED lamp.

Pandas have lost weight, but new problems have arisen. Tang Guoliang said that different temperature and humidity conditions in Sichuan and Beijing had challenged them. "Some props can be made in Nanchong without any problems, but when you come to Beijing, because of the different climate, there will be many problems, such as material hardening and brittleness, which can not be used at all." In order to overcome the "soil and water not acclimatized", they can only debug and upgrade again and again, improve the technology and make props, and ensure that nothing is lost. "Material selection needs to be improved," Tang Guoliang said. For example, the choice of LED lamps seems common, but they are selected from hundreds of lights. The final version of the panda props, which is 2.35 meters high, weighs only about 20 kilograms, which is tens of kilograms lighter than the original version. Even Tang Guoliang can't help but sigh, "I didn't expect that everyone can work together to make such a high-tech, portable prop that can achieve the performance effect at the same time."
